Hungarian company 4iG Space and Defence has signed a definitive investment agreement with Axiom Space to invest $100 million in the commercial space station company, over two investments.

4iG SDT announced Dec. 19 it will invest $30 million by Dec. 31 and then $70 million by March 31. The company first announced plans for the investment in October. 4iG SDT is a subsidiary of Hungarian telecommunications and IT firm 4iG.

Axiom Space is a U.S.-based commercial spaceflight and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) infrastructure development company. It conducts crewed missions to the International Space Station (ISS) and has been developing Axiom Station, one of the world’s first commercial space stations.

“This collaboration is of historic significance for the Hungarian space industry, as it marks the first time a Hungarian company participates as an owner of a U.S. space player. This investment represents Hungary’s leadership in the space ecosystem and is indicative of the strong ties between Hungary and the United States,” commented Gellért Jászai, chairman of the board for 4iG.

Axiom Space said in a statement that the investment represents the beginning of a relationship with an investor that has a long-term commitment and European industrial and technological background. Axiom Space previously flew the second Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu, in the Axiom Mission 4 earlier this year.
